How the dasha works
Vimshottari dasha divides a 120-year cycle among nine planets. Where the cycle begins depends on the nakshatra the Moon occupied at your birth, and how far the Moon had travelled through that nakshatra sets how much of the first period remained at birth.
Mahadasha and antardasha
The mahadasha is the major period and lasts between six and twenty years. Inside it, nine antardasha sub-periods follow the same planetary order, each led by its own planet. The tool lists both with their dates, and marks the one running today.
Reading the result
Each planet is shown with a theme such as growth, patience or curiosity. Use it as an invitation to notice where your attention naturally goes in each season of life, not as a forecast of what will happen.
Frequently asked questions
What is a mahadasha?
It is the major planetary period in the Vimshottari system. The nine periods together make a 120-year cycle, and each one is divided into nine sub-periods called antardasha.
Why does birth time matter?
The Moon travels about thirteen degrees a day, so a few hours can move it into a different nakshatra and shift every date in the timeline. If you do not know the time, the tool says so when the result could change.
Which year length is used?
A dasha year of 365.25 days. Other programs use slightly different year lengths, which can move dates by a few days.
Can I get a forecast for the coming year?
Yes. The optional report below the result lists your sub-periods for the next twelve months and a weekly forecast, with a gentle practice for each season.
