Second person (traditionally the bride)

Start typing a city, then choose it from the list. This sets the time zone.

How Ashtakoota works

Ashtakoota compares the nakshatra and sign of each person's Moon across eight areas: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. The areas carry from one to eight points and add up to 36.

How to read the score

Tradition uses 18 as a reference point. A higher total shows more areas lining up naturally, and a lower total shows more areas to nurture. It is one lens among many: values, communication and commitment shape a relationship far more than any number.

Different almanacs, slightly different numbers

The tables for Vashya, Gana and Yoni vary a little between traditions and websites, so another site may show a slightly different total. This tool uses the common Parashari tables and explains each area in plain language.

Frequently asked questions

What does a score below 18 mean?

It means this lens highlights more areas to nurture. No score can decide a relationship; your values, communication and commitment matter far more.

Why do other sites show a different score?

Some tables, such as Vashya, Gana and Yoni, differ slightly between almanacs. The method is the same, so totals can differ by a point or two.

Who is the first and who is the second person?

Tradition names them groom and bride because the tables were written that way. The labels only decide which table row is read, and anyone can use the tool.

Do I need both birth times?

The Moon moves quickly, so the time helps. If a time is missing the tool uses midday and tells you when the Moon changes nakshatra or sign that day.
